Sorry, SOLD (April, 2021) ———- Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a Duexi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a Premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the completion in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died in 1968.

Sorry, SOLD (May, 2020) —– Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon was born in Paris on 17 November, 1858. He studied under Cavelier, Chaplain and Tasset and, on the urging of Chaplain, took part in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving. He placed twice before eventually winning in 1887. His works exhibit a strong influence by Roty. Vernon won many accolades and in 1900 was made a chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. He died in 1912.

Delamarre: 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF VERDUN.
1976, France. 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF VERDUN. By Raymond Delamarre. Bronze 68mm. $60. —————- Raymond Delamarre was born in Paris on June 8 1890. He studied under his father, an engraver, and under Jules Coutan at l’?cole des beaux-arts de Paris. He was also a student of Rodin. He was mobilized in World War I and was wounded and captured in 1914. He returned to Paris following the war and won the first Grand Prize de Rome for Sculpture in 1919. He exhibited at the international expositions of 1925, 1931 and 1937. Delamarre is noted for large scale sculptures, and a bas-relief, Les Arts et Monuments R?gionau on the liner ?Normandie.? He created a large body of medals and plaquettes. Delamarre died on February 28, 1986.

1970, France. F?D?RATION PARISIENNE DU BATIMENT. By Henry Dropsy. Bronze 61mm. $75. ———- Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors. He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste ?mile Dropsy. He later studied at l??cole Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.

Guiraud studied at the ?cole des Beaux Arts in Toulouse and later at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He worked in the workshop of Jean Boucher. Guiraud won the First Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1926. He died at Saint-Hilaire-au-Temple (Marne) on May 12 1989.

Henri Auguste Jules Patey, sculptor and medallist was born in Paris in 1855. In 1873 he entered the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts. He studied sculpture under Capu and medal engraving under Chaplain. He first exhibited at the Salon in 1877 and won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome, for medal engraving, in 1881. He won a bronze medal at the Universal Exposition of 1889 and a gold medal at the Exposition of 1900. In 1896 he succeeded Lagrange as engraver-general of coins. Patey was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. He died in 1930.

He was a painter, architect, and medallist, but is known primarily as a sculptor. He was widely regarded as one of the leading sculptors of his time and won many distinctions over the course of his career. Bourdelle died at Vesinet on October 1, 1929. ——— Andr? Henri Lavrillier was born on 7 May 1885 in Paris. He studied under his father, Charles, an engraver, and later under Chaplain and Bourdelle at the ?cole des Beaux Arts. He won the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1914. He was later made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. Besides medals, he designed a number of coins, including the 1933 5-franc coin and coins for Romania.
