REV: Athena. $225. ———– Andr? Henri Lavrillier was born on 7 May 1885 in Paris. He studied under his father, Charles, an engraver, and later under Chaplain and Bourdelle at the ?cole des Beaux Arts. He won the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1914. He was later made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. Besides medals, he designed a number of coins, including the 1933 5 franc coin and coins for Romania. Lavrillier died in1958.

He was elected as a member of the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts and became a Soci?taire of the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais, where he received an honorable mention in 1898 and a bronze medal in 1900. Niclausse was eventually made a chevalier de la L?gion d’honneur. He died at Paris on November 1, 1958.

He also exhibited in New York and in several European cities. He played a key role in the revival of glass sculpting. Navarre was made a chevalier of. In 1962 he was elected to the Academie des Beaux Arts. He died in Paris in 1971.

France. MAURICE DENIS (1870-1943), Painter (one of the Nabis), By Henry Dropsy. Cast bronze 113mm. %350. ———– Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors. He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste ?mile Dropsy. He later studied at l??cole Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.

He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died on July 25, 1968 in Sucy-en-Brie, where he had been born.
