He was a painter, architect, and medallist, but is known primarily as a sculptor. He studied initially at the ?cole des Beaux Arts de Toulouse and was later accepted at the ?cole National des Beaux Arts de Paris and into the atlier of Falgi?re. He was widely regarded as one of the leading sculptors of his time and won many distinctions over the course of his career. Bourdelle died at Vesinet on October 1, 1929. ——— Andr? Henri Lavrillier was born on 7 May 1885 in Paris. He studied under his father, Charles, an engraver, and later under Chaplain and Bourdelle at the ?cole des Beaux Arts. He won the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1914. He was later made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. Besides medals, he designed a number of coins, including the 1933 5-franc coin and coins for Romania.
