Patina on the reverse slightly uneven. $75. ———– Paul Belmondo was born in 1898. He studied at the ?cole des Beaux-Arts d?Alger then at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He worked in the ateliers of Jean Boucher and Charles Despaiu. He won the Blumenthal prize in 1926 and went on to attain many other distinctions during a long career. He created an extensive body of medallic art and in 1976 the Monnaie de Paris made a special exhibit of his works.

France. HORTICULTURE AWARD. By Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon (1858-1912, Grand Prix de Rome). Bronze 50mm. $40. ——- Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon was born in Paris on 17 November, 1858. He studied under Cavelier, Chaplain and Tasset and, on the urging of Chaplain, took part in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving. He placed twice before eventually winning in 1887. His works exhibit a strong influence by Roty. Vernon won many accolades and in 1900 was made a chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. He died in 1912.

Catalogue G?n?rale Illustr? vol. 4 1830/A. $125 ——- Raymond Tschudin was born in Champigny-sur-Marne on November 2 1916. He was the son of a medalist and came early to his profession. He studied under Henry Dropsy at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. In 1945 he won the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving and studied at the Villa Medicis from 1946 to 1949. He was the creator of a large number of medals, many of which have religious themes. Tschudin died at Provins on November 28 1998

Catalogue G?n?rale Illustr? vol. 4 1834/B. $225. ——— Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died in 1968.

He designed coins for Morocco, Monaco and Lebanon, and a considerable number of medals. Delannoy was made a
Chevalier de la L?gion d’Honneur in 1947. He died in Paris on April 26, 1972.

He spent two years in apprenticeship in Austria then entered the studio of sculptor Prof. K?ne in 1891 and that of medallist Sten Chwartz in 1893. He distinguished himself as a medallist and sculptor of bas-reliefs, working in Austia France, England and Germany. Hujer died in 1968

He was an admirer of the work of Bernard Palissy. Pommier studied independently under the French painter Joseph Frank-Bail and the sculptor Louis-Ernest Barrias, rather than pursuing the more traditional route of attending l’?cole des Beaux-Arts. In 1905, he exhibited a series of statues at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais. In 1914 he won the Abd-el-Tif prize, which allowed him to be a resident at the Villa Abd-el-Tif, but had to postpone his attendance due to the outbreak of the First World War, during which he was mobilized as a stretcher bearer in the 3rd Battalion of the 11th Infantry. He wrote of his experiences as a soldier in the trenches. Pommier died in Paris in 1943

Sorry, SOLD (March, 2023) ———- L?on-Claude Mascaux was born in Saine-Germain-en-Lay (Yvelines) on June 13 1882, He studied under the sculptors Landowski and Bouchard. He first exhibited at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Beaux Arts in 1921. In 1924 he won a medal in the artistic comptetion of the Olumpic Games. In the following year he won a Grand Prix at the Exposition des Arts D?oratifs et Industriels Moderns for a series seven sports-themed medals. Unlike his contemporaries, he eschewed the reducing machine and cut his models directly into the plaster in the actual size of his intended medals. His medals typically reflect a strong Art Deco style. Mascaux died at Fontainebleau on March 8 1965.
