France.20 YEARS OF SERVICE AT ETS. POULIET & CHAUSSON. By Marie-Alexandre Coudray (1864-1932. Grand Prix de Rome, 1893). Bronze 50mm. $50. ——— Marie-Alexandre Lucien Coudray was born in Paris on February 21 1864. He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts and was a student of Dumont, Thomas, Allouard and Ponscarme. In 1893 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving for Orph?e endort Cerb?re aux sons de sa lyre (Orpheus putting Cerebus to sleep by the sound of his lyre), In 1898 he won a first prize at the Salon and a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. Coudray?s best known work is his portrait of Orpheus, which was offered for sale by the Monnaie de Paris, at the Universal Exposition in 1900. 4,500 examples which struck to meet the demand. Coudray died in 1932.

He studied under the sculptor, Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu. Starting in 1887 he exhibited at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Artistes Fran?ais. He won a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1900. In 1907 he was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. He was interested in and wrote about art theory. Nocq created medals, plaquettes, sculpture and many artistically designed everyday objects. He died in 1944.

Sorry, SOLD (June, 2023). ———- Henri Alfred Auguste Dubois, was the son of noted sculptor and medallist, Alph?e Dubois and grandson of Eug?ne Dubois. He was born in Rome on August 21 1859 while his father was studying at the French Academy in Rome as a winner of the Prix de Rome. He studied under his father, Chapu and Falgui?re. He won the second Grand Prix de Rome in 1878 and in 1883 became a Soci?taire des Artiste Fran?ais. In 1900 he won a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. In 1903 he was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. Dubois died in December of 1943.

He initially worked under his father, a marble worker, but later moved to Paris, where he studied under the sculptors Alexandre Falgui?re and Claude Antoine Merci?. He became a regular exhibitor at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Artistes Fran?ais. He produced several war memorials following World War I and is noted, among medal collectors, for his medals related to World War I. Morlon designed an effigy of Marianne in a Phrygian cap, which was used on the fifty centime, one franc and two-franc coins from 1931 until 1959. He also designed coins for Uruguay. He was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur in 1927. He died at Houdan on February 24, 1951.

He first exhibited at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Beaux Arts in 1921. In 1924 he won a medal in the artistic comptetion of the Olumpic Games. In the following year he won a Grand Prix at the Exposition des Arts D?oratifs et Industriels Moderns for a series seven sports-themed medals. Unlike his contemporaries, he eschewed the reducing machine and cut his models directly into the plaster in the actual size of his intended medals. His medals typically reflect a strong Art Deco style. Mascaux died at Fontainebleau on March 8 1965.

He studied under his father, an engraver, and under Jules Coutan at l’?cole des beaux-arts de Paris. He was also a student of Rodin. He was mobilized in World War I and was wounded and captured in 1914. He returned to Paris following the war and won the first Grand Prize de Rome for Sculpture in 1919. He exhibited at the international expositions of 1925, 1931 and 1937. Delamarre is noted for large scale sculptures, and a bas-relief, Les Arts et Monuments R?gionau on the liner ?Normandie.? He created a large body of medals and plaquettes. Delamarre died on February 28, 1986.
