At the age of 13 he was apprenticed to a button-making manufactory, where he was responsible for engraving dies. He later studied at the ?cole des Art D?coratifs. In 1869 he joined the atelier of Paulin Tasset and in 1871 he joined the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts. He won the Premiere Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1878 and a gold medal at the Salon of 1900. In 1903 he was made an Officier de la L?gion d?Honneur.

Sorry, SOLD (July, 2022) ———— Jean ?mile Louis de Vernon (known as Jean Vernon) was the son of medallist and sculptor Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He was born in Paris on April 1 1897. Vernon studied at the ?cole des Arts D?coratifs and at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, under Jules Coutan and Hippolyte Jules Lef?bvre. He first exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1922 and won a silver medal in 1924 and a gold medal in 1936. Vernon worked primarily as a sculptor, but created medals, including his famous series of medals depicting scenes from Jean de la Fontaine’s Fables. He died in Paris on September 9 1975.

He was admitted to the Soci?t? des artistes fran?ais and exhibited at the Salon des artistes fran?ais, where he won a gold medal in 1937. He was made a chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur in 1929. Fraisse died in Paris on September 13, 1945

He studied under the sculptors Landowski and Bouchard. He first exhibited at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Beaux Arts in 1921 and won a bronze medal in 1924. In the following year he won a Grand Prix at the Exposition des Arts D?oratifs et Industriels Moderns. Unlike his contemporaries, he eschewed the reducing machine and cut his models directly into the plaster in the actual size of his intended medals. His medals typically reflect a strong Art Deco style. This design was created for exhibition at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. It is one of a series of designs that breaks away from the traditional representations by using animals to characterize various sporting events.
