He studied at the ?cole des Beaux-Art de Lyon and then at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He spent time in the ateliers of Boucher and Patey. In 1923 he won the Premier Second Prix de Rome and a gold medal at the Salon des Artistes D?corateurs. Renard died in 1974

France. VIRGIN MARY. By Georges Contaux (1891-1984). Uniface studio model cast bronze 173mm, central design: 157mm. EX DELANDE COMPANY ARCHIVE. $250. —– This is a “studio model,” from the Delande company archives, the main purpose of which would have been to serve as a model from which dies would have been made using a reducing machine. Only a very limited number of studio models would have been made with just a few being sold, disseminated or used for special purposes. In some cases, only one “master” studio model would have been created solely for use in the process of die-making. (Delande et Cie. of Paris was a company that manufactured and distributed medals, decorations, flags, and trophies. In was founded in the late 19th century and closed its doors in the 1980s. It had customers throughout the world and produced military decorations and uniform ornamentations for several governments).———- Georges Contaux was born on September 22, 1891 in Paris. He entered the ?cole Boulle, where he studied sculpture and engraving. He joined the 26?me R?giment d?artillerie de campagne at Chartres in 1911. Contaux was wounded during World War I and had two fingers amputated. In 1921 he received an honorable mention at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais. From 1922 to 1923 he worked for the engraver Pierre Lasserre (1870-1943). He then established himself at Vigneux-sur-Seine, where he remained, for the rest of his life, working as a sculptor and medallist. We was a prolific medallist producing about twenty-five hundred medals over the span of fifty years from 1930 to 1980. About fifteen hundred of his medals were religious, another eight hundred related to sports and about 150 were portrait medals. Contaux died at Vigneux-sur-Seine on September 15, 1984.

Sorry, SOLD (May, 2022) ————— Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died on July 25 1968 in Sucy-en-Brie, where he had been born.

He designed a number of coins for foreign governments. Dammann died in 1939.

Top left-hand corner of the frame is slightly damaged. $300. ——— L?on-Claude Mascaux was born in Saine-Germain-en-Lay (Yvelines) on June 13 1882, He studied under the sculptors Landowski and Bouchard. He first exhibited at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Beaux Arts in 1921. In 1924 he won a medal in the artistic comptetion of the Olumpic Games. In the following year he won a Grand Prix at the Exposition des Arts D?oratifs et Industriels Moderns for a series seven sports-themed medals. Unlike his contemporaries, he eschewed the reducing machine and cut his models directly into the plaster in the actual size of his intended medals. His medals typically reflect a strong Art Deco style. Mascaux died at Fontainebleau on March 8 1965.

He studied under Ponscarme, Thomas and Levillain at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was director of the ?cole des Beaux-Arts at Dijon. He won gold medals at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1900 and in 1920. Yencesse was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur in 1900. Many of his medallic works have a distinctive, subtle effect using a soft, shallow relief.
