Louis-Alexandre Bott?e (1852-1941, Grand Prix de Rome in 1878). Bronze 57mm x 78mm. Maier 140. $375. ——— Louis-Alexandre Bott?e (1852-1941) was born in Paris. At the age of 13 he was apprenticed to a button-making manufactory, where he was responsible for engraving dies. He later studied at the ?cole des Art D?coratifs. In 1869 he joined the atelier of Paulin Tasset and in 1871 he joined the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts. He won the Premiere Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1878 and a gold medal at the Salon of 1900. In 1903 he was made an Officier de la L?gion d?Honneur.

Sorry, SOLD (October, 2021). ——— Charles Philippe Germain Aristide Pillet, sculptor and medallist was born on 20 July 1869 in Paris . He studied under Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu and Jules-Cl?ment Chaplain. He won the premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1890. He became a soci?taire des Artistes Fran?ais in 1898. In 1900 he won a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. Pillet was made a chevalier of the L?gion d’Honneur in 1911. He won the Salon?s medal of honor in 1923. Pillet died in 1960.

He started to work with metals at the age of 13. He was apprenticed to various jewelers and silversmiths in Lyon. After completing his national service in 1923 he entered the atelier of sculptor Jean-Baptiste Larriv? at the ?cole des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. He later moved to Paris where he studied under Sculpture under Henri Bouchard and medal engraving under Henry Dropsy and Aguste Patey. Muller also studied at the private academy established by Andr? Lavrillier. In 1929 he won the second prix de Rome in medal engraving and in 1932 won the premier prix de Rome. Muller worked for the Monnaie de Paris and for various private makers of medals. He died at Antony in 1957.

Guiraud studied at the ?cole des Beaux Arts in Toulouse and later at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He worked in the workshop of Jean Boucher. Guiraud won the First Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1926. He died at Saint-Hilaire-au-Temple (Marne) on May 12 1989.

His father was a sculptor. David studied under Marchand and Jean-Jacques Delusse at l??cole centrale d?Angers between 1806 and 1807. In 1811 he won the Grand Prix de Rome for a bas relief of ?Mort d??paminondas.? After his stay in Rome, he traveled through France to London, where he met Flaxman and worked with him on a monument to the Duke of Wellington. He returned to France in 1818 He quickly established his reputation and was made a chevalier de la L?gion d’honneur in 1825 and was elected as a member of l?Institut de France in the following year. He served as a professor at l??cole des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He is celebrated for many sculptures, but especially for his extensive series of portrait medallions. David died in Paris on January 6 1856,
