He created works in various media, but specialized in wildlife painting sculpture. He was appointed Secretary of the Artistes Animaliers in 1929. He disliked cities and established himself at Clamart, where he died in his home on October 17, 2001.

1896, France. EXPOSITION NATIONALE ET COLONIALE, ROUEN. By Oscar Roty (1846-1911. Grand Prix de Rome, 1875). Silvered-bronze 68mm. $150. Sorry, SOLD (January, 2022) ——— ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts under Lecoq and Boisbaudran. It is reported that he lost the money for a paint box and subsequently enrolled in a life-drawing class and thence into sculpting. This trajectory would eventually lead to his career as the most celebrated medallist of his time. Along the way, he studied in the atelier of the statuary Augustin Dumont and under Ponscarme, Chapu and Chaplain. He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1875. Roty spent three years in Rome, where he modeled a number of waxes. In 1888 he was elected to the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts. He took the grand prize at the International Exposition in 1889. Roty was a commander of the L?gion d?Honneur. He was responsible for reintroducing the plaquette, an art form that had been neglected since the Renaissance. His ?Semeuse? (sower) was widely used on French coins and stamps. He died in Paris on March 23, 1911.

Sorry, SOLD (July, 2022) ————– Ren? Baudichon was born at Tours on March 24 1878. He was a student at the ?cole des Beaux-Art at Tours and later at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He studied under Ernest Barries, Fran?ois Sicard, Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon, and Oscar Roty. He was admitted to the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1903, where he won a bronze medal in 1904 for a plaque commissioned by the Chamber of Commence of Blois. He later won a silver medal in1914 and a gold medal in 1921. He designed numerous medallic works, but also worked as a sculptor and caricaturist. Baudichon died in Paris in 1963.

Sorry, SOLD (July, 2022) ——— Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors. He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste ?mile Dropsy. He later studied at l??cole Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.

Sorry, SOLD (June, 2022) ———– L?on-Claude Mascaux was born in Saine-Germain-en-Lay (Yvelines) on June 13 1882, He studied under the sculptors Landowski and Bouchard. He first exhibited at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Beaux Arts in 1921. In 1924 he won a medal in the artistic comptetion of the Olumpic Games. In the following year he won a Grand Prix at the Exposition des Arts D?oratifs et Industriels Moderns for a series seven sports-themed medals. Unlike his contemporaries, he eschewed the reducing machine and cut his models directly into the plaster in the actual size of his intended medals. His medals typically reflect a strong Art Deco style. Mascaux died at Fontainebleau on March 8 1965.

He studied under Jules Cavelier, Chaplain and Tasset and, on the urging of Chaplain, took part in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving. He placed twice before eventually winning in 1887. His works exhibit a strong influence by Roty. In 1900 he won a gold medal at the Universal Exposition and was made a chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. Vernon died in 1912.
