Circa 1990, Great Britain. HENRY MOORE. By Avril Vaughan. Cast bronze 100mm. $250. Sorry, SOLD (April, 2021) ———- Avril Vaughan, one of Britain?s leading medallists, was born in Twickenham. She won a scholarship to the Twickenham School of Art, where she studied in the 1950s. In the early 1960s she went to work for the designer and goldsmith, David Thomas, There she developed the skills in the cire perdue casting method, in stone cutting and in enamelling. She later freelanced as a jeweler and sculptor. In 1976 Vaughan worked for the Royal Mint and modelled the coinage for Tuvalu after designs by John Donald. She served as senior sculptor at the Franklin Mint U.S.A. for a couple of years, then returned to freelance work, undertaking commissions from the Royal Mint, the Norwegian Mint and the Royal Dutch Mint . She won a Prize at the 1992 FIDEM congress for the best portrait medal. She died in 2008.

Sorry, SOLD (May, 2020) —– Hippolyte Lef?bvre, sculptor and medallist was born in Lille. He studied at the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts in Lille, where he won first prizes in drawing and sculpture. He later entered the ?cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he won numerous prizes. He exhibited at the Salon and won the Grand Prix de Rome in sculpture in 1892. Lef?bvre won gold medals for medals that he exhibited at the 1900 Universal Exposition.

Sorry, SOLD (May, 2020) —– Louis-Eug?ne Mouchon was born in Paris on 30 August 1843. He studied under his father and first exhibited at the Salon in 1876. In 1888 he became a soci?taire des Artistes Fran?cais and was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honner in 1895. He won a silver medal at the Universal Expostion in 1900. Mouchon designed several postage stamps and banknotes. He died at Montrouge on 3 March 1914.

He studied at the ?cole des Beaux-Art de Lyon and then at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He spent time in the ateliers of Boucher and Patey. In 1923 he won the Premier Second Prix de Rome and a gold medal at the Salon des Artistes D?corateurs. Renard died in 1974.

Sorry, SOLD (June, 2021) ——– Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a Duexi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a Premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the completion in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died in 1968.

In 1908 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. In 1928 he won a medal of honor at the Salon and was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur in the following year. He designed a number of coins for foreign governments. Dammann died in 1939.

1921, France. ALLIANCE FRAN?AIS. By Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis (1848-1899, Grand Prix de Rome, 1872). Silver 69mm. Cased. $225. Sorry, SOLD (June, 2019) ——– Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis (1848-1899), French painter, sculptor and medallist entered l??cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts at the age of seventeen. In 1868 he won second Prix de Rome for medal engraving and the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1872. He exhibited regularly at the Salon. In 1898 he was made an officer of the L?gion d?Honneur. Daniel-Dupuis died tragically in 1899, when he was shot in his sleep by his wife, who had a history of mental illness. His wife then turned the gun on herself and committed suicide. Daniel-Dupuis created an extensive oeuvre of medallic works.
