Charles Philippe Germain Aristide, sculptor and medallist was born on 20 July 1869 in Paris . He studied under Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu and Jules-Cl?ment Chaplain. He won the premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1890. He became a soci?taire des Artistes Fran?ais in 1898. In 1900 he won a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. Pillet was made a chevalier of the L?gion d’Honneur in 1911. He won the Salon?s medal of honor in 1923. Pillet died in 1960.

France. IN LABORE QUIES. By Louis Oscar Roty (1846-1911. Grand Prix de Rome, 1875). Bronze plaquette presented in 1927. 105mm x 98mm. $275. Sorry, SOLD (October, 2020) ——– Louis Oscar Roty (1846-1911) was born at Paris in 1846. He initially studied painting at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts under Lecoq and Boisbaudran. It is reported that he lost the money for a paint box and subsequently enrolled in a life-drawing class and thence into sculpting. This trajectory would eventually lead to his career as the most celebrated medallist of his time. Along the way, he studied in the atelier of the statuary Augustin Dumont and under Ponscarme, Chapu and Chaplain. He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1875. Roty spent three years in Rome, where he modeled a number of waxes. In 1888 he was elected to the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts. He took the grand prize at the International Exposition in 1889. Roty was a commander of the L?gion d?Honneur. He was responsible for reintroducing the plaquette, an art form that had been neglected since the Renaissance.

In 1893 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. In 1898 he won a first prize at the Salon and a silver medal at the Universal Exposition.

He studied under Barrias and de Laurent. In 1891 he won the Grand Prix de Rome. He won a first class medal in 1897 and gold medal at the Universal Exposition in 1900, the same year that he became a soci?taire des Artistes Fran?ais. He was made an officier de la L?gion d?Honneur. Sicard died in 1934.
