1921, France. ALLIANCE FRAN?AIS. By Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis (1848-1899, Grand Prix de Rome, 1872). Silver 69mm. Cased. $225. Sorry, SOLD (June, 2019) ——– Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis (1848-1899), French painter, sculptor and medallist entered l??cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts at the age of seventeen. In 1868 he won second Prix de Rome for medal engraving and the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1872. He exhibited regularly at the Salon. In 1898 he was made an officer of the L?gion d?Honneur. Daniel-Dupuis died tragically in 1899, when he was shot in his sleep by his wife, who had a history of mental illness. His wife then turned the gun on herself and committed suicide. Daniel-Dupuis created an extensive oeuvre of medallic works.
