Sorry, SOLD (June, 2022). ———– This is a “studio model,” from the Delande company archives, the main purpose of which would have been to serve as a model from which dies would have been made using a reducing machine. Only a very limited number of studio models would have been made with just a few being sold, disseminated or used for special purposes. In some cases, only one “master” studio model would have been created solely for use in the process of die-making. (Delande et Cie. of Paris was a company that manufactured and distributed medals, decorations, flags, and trophies. In was founded in the late 19th century and closed its doors in the 1980s. It had customers throughout the world and produced military decorations and uniform insignia for several governments). ——————– Samuel Gr?n, painter, sculptor, engraver and medalist was born on February 19 1869 in Tallin, Estonia, the son of Maurice Gr?n, a painter. He worked in London and Paris. Gr?n exhibited at the Soci?t? des artistes Fran?ais and at the Salon of the Royal Academy in London. The exact date of his death is unrecorded, probably some time after the 1930s.

France. LA FORTUNE – CLUB DU VOILE, VILLE FRANCHE. (Sailing Club). By Francis Sargant. Bronze 96mm. $450. Sorry, SOLD (January, 2021) ——— Francis William Sargant was born in Hampstead, London on January 10 1870. He was the younger brother of the painter and pioneer of ‘true’ fresco technique, Mary Sargant-Florence (1857-1954). After studying at New College, Oxford, Sargant studied at the Slade School of Fine Art (1895-6) under Dressler and Sir George Frampton and then in Florence and Munich (1899-1903) under the German sculptor Adolf von Hildebrand. Sargant spent most of his career in Italy, where he had a studio in Florence interrupted only by World War I. He was a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. Starting in 1919, he exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy. He also exhibited in Paris, Munich (where he was awarded a gold medal in 1904), Vienna and Venice. He sculpted in stone and bronze, but his preferred medium was marble. Sargant’s most noted works are a memorial to Florence Nightingale in the Church of Santa Croce executed in 1913 and a series of memorial reliefs for the memorial of World War I in the chapel at Oakham School (1925-6), where his sister contributed some frescoes. He died in Cambridge on January 11 1960.

Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fréderic-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxiéme second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died on July 25 1968 in Sucy-en-Brie, where he had been born.
