France. SPANIEL CLUB FRAN?AIS. By L?on Danchin (1887-1938). Copper galvano 154mm. $200. Sorry, SOLD (April, 2023). ———- L?on Danchin was born on June 21 1887 at Lille. He entered the Coll?ge Jeanne d?Arc at Lille, and later the ?cole des Beaux-Arts de Lille where he studied under Jean Joire, an artist of animals. Starting in 1906, he exhibited at the Salon de Lille, most notably a series of busts of prominent local figures. He was mobilized in 1914 and served in the 351e r?giment d’infanterie,during World War I. He was decorated with the Croix de Guerre. Danchin specialized in painting, sculpting and drawing animals. He died on August 4 1948 at Bergues. —– Delande et Cie. of Paris was a company that manufactured and distributed medals, decorations, flags, and trophies. It was founded in the late 19th century and closed its doors in the 1980s. It had customers throughout the world and produced military decorations and uniform ornamentations for several governments. The Delande family broke up the business?s archives around 2010.

France. SAINT BERNARD. By Aleth Guzman-Nagotte (1904-1978). Bronze 86mm. $100. Sorry, SOLD (October, 2024)———– Aleth Guzman-Nagotte, sculptor and medallist was born in 1904. She studied at the conservatory in Dijon, then moved to the town?s ?cole des Beaux Arts, where she studied under Ovide Yencesse. She was accepted into the l??cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts at Paris, where she studied engraving under Patey and Dammann and sculpture under Sicard and Bouchard. She won the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1929. Guzman-Nagotte died in 1978.

Sorry, SOLD (May, 2022) ———— Paul-Marcel Dammann, sculptor and medallist was born on June 13 1885 at Montgerm. He studied under Chaplain. In 1908 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. In 1928 he won a medal of honor at the Salon and was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur in the following year. He designed a number of coins for foreign governments. Dammann died in 1939.

Maier 323, Catalogue G?n?rale Illustr? vol. 3 383/K, Classens 130. $250. Sorry, SOLD (November, 2021) —————- Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died in 1968.

He exhibited at the salon beginning in 1894. He won an honorable mention in 1901 and a third class medal in 1904. In 1905 he became a Soci?taire des Artistes Fran?ais and a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur.

He studied under the sculptor, Jouffroy, and Eugene-Andr? Oudin?, the medallist. He won the first prize at the Concours de Rome in 1862. He studied in Italy from 1864 to 1868. Cahplain was elected to the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts in 1881 and became an officer of the L?gion d’Honneur in 1888.
