France. P?CHEUR (Angler). By Ren? Baudichon. Bronze plaquette 36mm x 57mm. OBV: An angler seated beside a river. REV: A naked child seated, with a fishing pole.In its original leather holder. $90. Sorry, SOLD (July, 2022) ————– Ren? Baudichon was born at Tours on March 24 1878. He was a student at the ?cole des Beaux-Art at Tours and later at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He studied under Ernest Barries, Fran?ois Sicard, Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon, and Oscar Roty. He was admitted to the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1903, where he won a bronze medal in 1904 for a plaque commissioned by the Chamber of Commence of Blois. He later won a silver medal in1914 and a gold medal in 1921. He designed numerous medallic works, but also worked as a sculptor and caricaturist. Baudichon died in Paris in 1963.

1958, France. ATLAS ? OFFICE MUNICIPAL DES SPORTS, BOIS COLOMBES. By Henry Dropsy. Bronze plaquette 45mm x 61mm. $60. Sorry, SOLD (July, 2022) ——— Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors. He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste ?mile Dropsy. He later studied at l??cole Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.

Sorry, SOLD (June, 2022) ———– L?on-Claude Mascaux was born in Saine-Germain-en-Lay (Yvelines) on June 13 1882, He studied under the sculptors Landowski and Bouchard. He first exhibited at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Beaux Arts in 1921. In 1924 he won a medal in the artistic comptetion of the Olumpic Games. In the following year he won a Grand Prix at the Exposition des Arts D?oratifs et Industriels Moderns for a series seven sports-themed medals. Unlike his contemporaries, he eschewed the reducing machine and cut his models directly into the plaster in the actual size of his intended medals. His medals typically reflect a strong Art Deco style. Mascaux died at Fontainebleau on March 8 1965.

France. YACHT CLUB DE FRANCE. By Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon (1858-1912, Grand Prix de Rome). Bronze 50mm. Cased. $135. Sorry, SOLD (June, 2022) ———– Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon was born in Paris on 17 November, 1858. He studied under Jules Cavelier, Chaplain and Tasset and, on the urging of Chaplain, took part in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving. He placed twice before eventually winning in 1887. His works exhibit a strong influence by Roty. In 1900 he won a gold medal at the Universal Exposition and was made a chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. Vernon died in 1912.

He was a student at the ?cole des Beaux-Arts, where he studied under Jules Cavelier, Hubert Ponscarme and Oscar Roty. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais, where he received an honorable mention in 1888 and a second class medal in 1908. He died at Gentilly (Seine) on November 8 1925

Sorry, SOLD (January, 2023) ———– Maurice Delannoy was born on March 11, 1885 in Paris. He studied at the ?cole Germain Pilon under Charles Valton and Jules ?douard Roin?. He became a professor of drawing and worked as a medallisst and sculptor. He designed coins for Morocco, Monaco and Lebanon, and a considerable number of medals. Delannoy was made a
Chevalier de la L?gion d’Honneur in 1947. He died in Paris on April 26, 1972.

He attended the Art School in Augsburg, and later the art schools in Dresden, Leipzig , Berlin and Dusseldorf. He spent five years in Paris and later moved to Munich, where he settled in 1904. Goetz was a prolific medallist, most noted for his satirical works, especially those of World War I. Goetz died in 1950.

Aleth Guzman-Nagotte, sculptor and medallist was born in 1904. She studied at the conservatory in Dijon, then moved to the town?s ?cole des Beaux Arts, where she studied under Ovide Yencesse. The was accepted into the l??cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts at Paris, where she studied engraving under Patey and Dammann and sculpture under Sicard and Bouchard. She won the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1929. Guzman-Nagotte died in 1978.

In 1908 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. In 1928 he won a medal of honor at the Salon and was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur in the following year. He designed a number of coins for foreign governments. Dammann died in 1939.
