Aleth Guzman-Nagotte, sculptor and medallist was born in 1904. She studied at the conservatory in Dijon, then moved to the town?s ?cole des Beaux Arts, where she studied under Ovide Yencesse. The was accepted into the l??cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts at Paris, where she studied engraving under Patey and Dammann and sculpture under Sicard and Bouchard. She won the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1929. Guzman-Nagotte died in 1978.

Sorry, SOLD (May, 2022) ————– Paul-Marcel Dammann, sculptor and medallist was born on June 13 1885 at Montgerm. He studied under Chaplain. In 1908 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. In 1928 he won a medal of honor at the Salon and was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur in the following year. He designed a number of coins for foreign governments. Dammann died in 1939.

France. BUST OF CHRIST WITH THE CROSS. By Georges Contaux (1891-1984) after Amengual. Uniface cast bronze studio model from the archives of the Delande Company. Approximately 180mm, central design: 155mm. $275. Sorry, SOLD (June, 2023) —– Delande et Cie. of Paris was a company that manufactured and distributed medals, decorations, flags, and trophies. In was founded in the late 19th century and closed its doors in the 1980s. It had customers throughout the world and produced military decorations and uniform ornamentations for several governments. The Delande family broke up the business?s archives around 2010. ———– Georges Contaux was born on September 22, 1891 in Paris. He entered the ?cole Boulle, where he studied sculpture and engraving. He joined the 26?me R?giment d?artillerie de campagne at Chartres in 1911. Contaux was wounded during World War I and had two fingers amputated. In 1921 he received an honorable mention at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais. From 1922 to 1923 he worked for the engraver Pierre Lasserre (1870-1943). He then established himself at Vigneux-sur-Seine, where he remained, for the rest of his life, working as a sculptor and medallist. We was a prolific medallist producing about twenty-five hundred medals over the span of fifty years from 1930 to 1980. About fifteen hundred of his medals were religious, another eight hundred related to sports and about 150 were portrait medals. Contaux died at Vigneux-sur-Seine on September 15, 1984.

It provides the historical context for the events commemorated and describes each medal and its iconography in detail. Since the history of the Low Countries of this period was so strongly connected to other countries it was potentially an important resource for collectors and scholars elsewhere, but being written in Dutch limited its value to those outside the Dutch-speaking region. A French edition was published some years later, which made the work more accessible to others, but it is a rare work that is hard to find today. This English translation was the project of passionate collector who wanted to make this iconic work available to a wider audience. It fills a significant void. This new edition includes engravings from the original publication with the addition of numerous color plates. It also introduces a new numbering system. It is sure to be a valued addition to many numismatic libraries.

He studied sculpture under Paul Dubois (1829-1905) at l’?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1909 he won the Belgian Prix de Rome for sculpture. Rau died in Brussels on June 29 1966.

He was a student at the ?cole des Beaux-Arts, where he studied under Jules Cavelier, Hubert Ponscarme and Oscar Roty. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais, where he received an honorable mention in 1888 and a second class medal in 1908. He died at Gentilly (Seine) on November 8 1925

He was a student of Jean Boucher and exhibited at the Salon beginning in 1925. He is noted in particular for his sculptures of animals, especially dogs. He also created some medallic works including a few with a strong art deco style. Fath died in 1952.

Sorry, SOLD (May, 2021) ——————– Maurice Delannoy was born on March 11, 1885 in Paris. He studied at the ?cole Germain Pilon under Charles Valton and Jules ?douard Roin?. He became a professor of drawing and worked as a medallisst and sculptor. He designed coins for Morocco, Monaco and Lebanon, and a considerable number of medals. Delannoy was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d’Honneur in 1947. He died in Paris on April 26, 1972.
