Charles Philippe Germain Aristide Pillet, sculptor and medallist was born on 20 July 1869 in Paris . He studied under Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu and Jules-Cl?ment Chaplain. He won the premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1890. He became a soci?taire des Artistes Fran?ais in 1898. In 1900 he won a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. Pillet was made a chevalier of the L?gion d’Honneur in 1911. He won the Salon?s medal of honor in 1923. Pillet died in 1960.

Sorry, SOLD (June, 2023) ————- Louis Muller was born on February 22 1902 at V?nissieux into a family of modest means. He started to work with metals at the age of 13. He was apprenticed to various jewelers and silversmiths in Lyon. After completing his national service in 1923 he entered the atelier of sculptor Jean-Baptiste Larriv? at the ?cole des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. He later moved to Paris where he studied under Sculpture under Henri Bouchard and medal engraving under Henry Dropsy and Aguste Patey. Muller also studied at the private academy established by Andr? Lavrillier. In 1929 he won the second prix de Rome in medal engraving and in 1932 won the premier prix de Rome. Muller worked for the Monnaie de Paris and for various private makers of medals. He died at Antony in 1957.

Jean Émile Louis de Vernon (known as Jean Vernon) was the son of medallist and sculptor Frédéric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He was born in Paris on April 1, 1897. Vernon studied at the École  des Arts Décoratifs and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, under Jules Coutan and Hippolyte Jules Lefèbvre. He first exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1922 and won a silver medal in 1924 and a gold medal in 1936. Vernon worked primarily as a sculptor, but created medals, including his famous series of medals depicting scenes from Jean de la Fontaine’s Fables. He died in Paris on September 9, 1975.

She was the daughter of artist Lucien Freud and great-granddaughter of Sigmund Freud. She is noted for her conceptual sculpture. She held her first solo show, aged 18, under the curatorship of her teachers at Putney Art School. She also studied at the Wimbledon College of Art, the Central School of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art. Additionally, she spent some time studying mosaics in Ravenna. In 1986 she won the British Art Medal Scholarship in Rome where she studied sculpture at the Academia de Belle Arti de Roma and at the Scuola d’Arte della Medaglia in Rome. McAdam Freud held several exhibitions of her medallic works, which are represented in museums in the United Kingdom, United States, Greece and Germany. She died on August 9, 2022.

Great Britain. HENRY MOORE, Sculptor. By Avril Vaughan (1939-2006). Cast bronze 98mm. $250. Sorry, SOLD

Avril Vaughan, one of Britain?s leading medallists, was born in Twickenham in 1937. She won a scholarship to the Twickenham School of Art, where she studied in the 1950s. In the early 1960s she went to work for the designer and goldsmith, David Thomas, there she developed skills in the cire perdue casting method, in stone cutting and in enamelling. She later freelanced as a jeweler and sculptor. In 1976 Vaughan worked for the Royal Mint and modelled the coinage for Tuvalu after designs by John Donald. She served as senior sculptor at the Franklin Mint U.S.A. for a couple of years, then returned to freelance work, undertaking commissions from the Royal Mint, the Norwegian Mint and the Royal Dutch Mint. She won a Prize at the 1992 FIDEM congress for the best portrait medal. She died in 2008.
