France. TÉLÉGRAPH SANS FILS (Wireless telegraph). By Paul-Marcel Dammann (1885-1939, Grand Prix de Rome 1908). Bronze 68mm. Catalogue Général Illustré vol. 3 116/A. $250.

Paul-Marcel Dammann, sculptor and medallist was born on June 13, 1885, at Montgerm. He studied under Chaplain. In 1908 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. In 1928 he won a medal of honor at the Salon and was made a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in the following year. He designed a number of coins for foreign governments. Dammann died in 1939.

He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1923. Bazor succeeded Patey in the post of Engraver General at the Paris Mint, a post he held until 1958. He died in 1974.

He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where specialized in designing medals coins and small bronzes under Auguste Carli and Lucien Bazor and. He began exhibiting at the Salon des artistes Fran?ais in 1929 and was made a member. In 1954 he won a diploma and medal at the international exposition in Madrid. Cochet died at Moulins on July 26 1988.

Sorry, SOLD (March, 2023). ———– Ren? Baudichon was born at Tours on March 24, 1878. He was a student at the ?cole des Beaux-Art at Tours and later at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He studied under Ernest Barries, Fran?ois Sicard, Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon, and Oscar Roty. He was admitted to the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1903, where he won a bronze medal in 1904 for a plaque commissioned by the Chamber of Commence of Blois. He later won a silver medal in1914 and a gold medal in 1921. He designed numerous medallic works, but also worked as a sculptor and caricaturist. Baudichon died in Paris in 1963

Jacques Wiener, whose given name was Jacob, was born on March 2, 1815, at Hoerstgen (Rhine Province) to Hungarian parents. He seems to have started using Jacques as his name when he moved to Belgium. At the age of 13 he went to live with his uncle Baruth, an artist, and studied drawing, modelling and engraving. In 1835 he moved to Paris to perfect his skills and in 1839 moved to Brussels, where he established himself as an engraver. He became a naturalized Belgian in 1845. He created an extensive body of medals and is best known for his finely detailed architectural medals, especially his series of Most Remarkable Edifices. He is also widely known for engraving the first Belgian postage stamp. Wiener died in Brussels in 1899.
