Cased. $225 Sorry, SOLD (February, 2022) ———– Jules-Cl?ment Chaplain (1839-1909) was born at Mortagne. He entered the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1857. He studied under the sculptor, Jouffroy, and Eugene-Andr? Oudin?, the medallist. He won the first prize at the Concours de Rome in 1862. He studied in Italy from 1864 to 1868. He was elected to the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts in 1881 and became an officer of the L?gion d’Honneur in 1888.

Sorry, SOLD (May, 2023).———- Samuel Gr?n, painter, sculptor, engraver and medalist was born on February 19 1869 in Tallin, Estonia, the son of Maurice Gr?n, a painter. He worked in London and Paris. Gr?n exhibited at the Soci?t? des artistes Fran?ais and at the Salon of the Royal Academy in London. The exact date of his death is unknown, probably some time after the 1930s.

France. CONFEDERATION DE L’ARTISANAT FRANCAIS. By Georges Contaux. Bronze 50mm. $75. Sorry, SOLD (May, 2023) ———— Georges Contaux was born on September 22, 1891 in Paris. He entered the ?cole Boulle, where he studied sculpture and engraving. He joined the 26?me R?giment d?artillerie de campagne at Chartres in 1911. Contaux was wounded during World War I and had two fingers amputated. In 1921 he received an honorable mention at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais. From 1922 to 1923 he worked for the engraver Pierre Lasserre (1870-1943). He then established himself at Vigneux-sur-Seine, where he remained, for the rest of his life, working as a sculptor and medallist. We was a prolific medallist producing about twenty-five hundred medals over the span of fifty years from 1930 to 1980. About fifteen hundred of his medals were religious, another eight hundred related to sports and about 150 were portrait medals. Contaux died at Vigneux-sur-Seine on September 15, 1984.

Sorry, SOLD (June, 2020) ————- Paul Vincze (1907-1994), the son of a Jewish father and Roman Catholic mother was born in Hungary. He studied at the High School of Arts and Crafts in Budapest and later in the studio of E. Telcs. In 1935 he won a scholarship to study in Rome. In 1937 he moved to England and eventually became a British citizen. He worked out of a studio in Chelsea, but later moved to the south of France, where he died. He is noted for an extensive body of medals.

Ian Rank-Broadley is a British sculptor, who has designed several coins and medals. He was born in Walton-on-Thames in1952. He studied at Epsom School of Art (1970?74) and at Slade School of Fine Art (1974?76), where he was awarded the Boise Travelling Scholarship. He continued his studies at the British School at Rome. Rank-Broadley is a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors, becoming an Associate in 1989 and a Fellow 1994. He specializes in low relief sculpture . His works are represented in several permanent collections, including the British Museum and the National Portrait Gallery.

Léon-Claude Mascaux was born in Saint-Germain-en-Lay (Yvelines) on June 13 1882,  He studied under the sculptors Landowski and Bouchard. He first exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Beaux Arts in 1921. In 1924 he won a medal in the artistic comptetion of the Olympic Games. In the following year he won a Grand Prix at the Exposition des Arts Déoratifs et Industriels Moderns for a series seven sports-themed medals. Unlike his contemporaries, he eschewed the reducing machine and cut his models directly into the plaster in the actual size of his intended medals. His medals typically reflect a strong Art Deco style. Mascaux died at Fontainebleau on March 8 1965.
