Maurice Delannoy was born on March 11, 1885, in Paris. He studied at the École Germain Pilon under Charles Valton and Jules Édouard Roiné. He became a professor of drawing and worked as a medallisst and sculptor. He designed coins for Morocco, Monaco and Lebanon, and a considerable number of medals. Delannoy was made a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 1947. He died in Paris on April 26, 1972.

He studied under Barre and Duret as well as his father Eug?ne Dubois. In 1855 he won the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. He exhibited at the salon in 1868 and 1869. He was a jury member at the Universal Exposition of 1900. Dubois was made a chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur.

Aleth Guzman-Nagotte, sculptor and medallist was born in 1904. She studied at the conservatory in Dijon, then moved to the town’s École des Beaux Arts, where she studied under Ovide Yencesse. She was accepted into the l’École Nationale Supérieur des Beaux-Arts at Paris, where she studied engraving under Patey and Dammann and sculpture under Sicard and Bouchard. She won the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1929. Guzman-Nagotte died in 1978.

He later studied at the ?cole des Art D?coratifs. In 1869 he joined the atelier of Paulin Tasset and in 1871 he joined the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts. He won the Premiere Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1878 and a gold medal at the Salon of 1900. In 1903 he was made an Officier de la L?gion d?Honneur.

Chaplain was born at Mortagne in 1839. He entered the Ecole nationale superieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1857. He studied under the Sculptor Jouffroy and Eugene-Andre Oudine, the medallist. He won the first prize at the Concours de Rome in 1862. He studied in Italy from 1864 to? 1868. He was elected to the Academie des Beaux-Arts in 1881 and became an officer of the Legion d’Honneur in 1888. He died in 1909.

1939, France. 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF LA SOCIÉTÉ GÉNÉRALE. By Pierre Turin (1891-1968. Grand Prix de Rome in 1920). Bronze 81mm. $225 Sorry, SOLD (September, 2024).
Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August, 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the École Nationale Supèrieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fréderic-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxième second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur. Turin died on July 25, 1968 in Sucy-en-Brie, where he had been born.

Jean Émile Louis de Vernon (known as Jean Vernon) was the son of medallist and sculptor Frédéric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He was born in Paris on April 1, 1897. Vernon studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, under Jules Coutan and Hippolyte Jules Lefèbvre. He first exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1922 and won a silver medal in 1924 and a gold medal in 1936. Vernon worked primarily as a sculptor, but created medals, including his famous series of medals depicting scenes from Jean de la Fontaine’s Fables. He died in Paris on September 9, 1975.
