France. World War I. RED CROSS AID TO SOLDIERS. By René Baudichon (1878-1963). Bronze 45mm. $60.

Ren? Baudichon was born at Tours on March 24 1878. He was a student at the ?cole des Beaux-Art at Tours and later at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He studied under Ernest Barries, Fran?ois Sicard, Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon, and Oscar Roty. He was admitted to the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1903, where he won a bronze medal in 1904 for a plaque commissioned by the Chamber of Commence of Blois. He later won a silver medal in1914 and a gold medal in 1921. He designed numerous medallic works, but also worked as a sculptor and caricaturist. Baudichon died in Paris in 1963

Andr?-Henri Torcheux was born in Paris on January 9 1912. He studied under Paul Niclausse at l’?cole Nationale des Arts D?coratifs de Paris and later under Jean Boucher at l’?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He won a silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Fan?ais. Starting in 1946 he taught drawing in Paris. He worked primarily as a sculptor and created several medals.

France. World War II. MEMORIAL TO PIERRE LORRAIN, KILLED WHILE RAISING THE FRENCH FLAG ON THE RENAULT BUILDING DURING TH LIBERATION OF PARIS. By Raymond Delamarre (1890-1986). Bronze plaquette 45mm x 60mm. $90.

Raymond Delamarre was born in Paris on June 8, 1890. He studied under his father, an engraver, and under Jules Coutan at l’École des beaux-arts de Paris. He was also a student of Rodin. He was mobilized in World War I and was wounded and captured in 1914. He returned to Paris following the war and won the first Grand Prize de Rome for Sculpture in 1919. He exhibited at the international expositions of 1925, 1931 and 1937. Delamarre is noted for large scale sculptures, and a bas-relief, Les Arts et Monuments Régionau on the liner ‘Normandie.”   He created a large body of medals and plaquettes. 1954, France. CONFÉDÉRATION NATIONALE DES INDUSTRIES DU BOIS. By Henry Dropsy (1885-1969). Silvered-bronze 55mm. $75.

Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors.  He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste Émile Dropsy. He later studied at l’École Supérieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.
