He won the Prix de la Ville de Bordeaux at the age of twenty. He moved to Paris and studied at the ?cole des Beaux Arts. Be became a professor at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts, a member of La Soci?t? Nationale des Beaux-Arts and of the Salon d?Automne. He created numerous medals and sculpture in carved wood and other materials.

Alexandre-Louis-Marie Charpentier, medalist, sculptor and craftsman was born in Paris in 1856. He initially trained as a jeweler, then worked under a medallist. This led him to entering L??cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts where he studied medal engraving from 1871 ? 1876 in the studio of Hubert Ponscarme. Charpentier first exhibited at the Salon in 1877 with a portrait medallion of his mother and in 1879 exhibited ?Tireur d?Arc,? a bas-relief, which was purchased by Alexandre Dumas. He with Ponscarme, Louis-Oscar Roty and others was responsible for the resurgence of medallic art in France in the late 19th century. Charpentier died at Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1909.

Victor Peter (1840-1918) was born at Paris. He studied art over the objections of his parents. He was a pupil of S?bastien Cornu, Devaulx and Falgui?re. He exhibited at the Salon and won a medal in 1879. He won a gold medal at the Universal Exposition of 1900. He was an artist who worked in various media. As a medallist, Peter is best known for his depictions of animals. He became professor of sculpture at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts in 1901 and was made a chevalier of the L?gion d’Honneur.

Sorry, (SOLD July, 2022) ——– Raoul B?nard was born on 30 September 1881. He studied under the sculptor Coutan and the medallists Chaplain and Vernon. In 1911 he won the Prix de Rome for medal engraving and, in 1922, a silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais, followed by a gold medal two years later. He was later made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. B?nard died in 1961.

1942, France. 300TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF ANNE-HILARION DE COSTENTIN, COMTE DE TOURVILLE, Naval Commander, Marshall of France. By Pierre Turin (1891-1968, Grand Prix de Rome in 1920). Bronze 72mm. Catalogue Général Illustré vol. 3. 379/E. $125.

Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August, 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the École Nationale Supèrieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fréderic-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxième second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins.  He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur. Turin died on July 25, 1968 in Sucy-en-Brie, where he had been born.
