Charles Philippe Germain Aristide Pillet (1869-1960), sculptor and medallist was born in Paris. He studied under , Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu and Jules-Cl?ment Chaplain. He won the premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1890. He became a soci?taire des Artistes Fran?ais in 1898. In 1900 he won a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. He won a medal of honor in 1923. He was made a chevalier of the L?gion d’Honneur

Ferdinand de Saint-Urbain was born at Nancy on June 30, 1658 (or possibly 1654, according to one source), the son of Claude Augustin de Saint-Urbain, a goldsmith and engraver. In 1673 he was appointed Mint-engraver at Bologna. In 1683 he moved to Rome, where he was appointed Chief engraver by Innocent XI. He returned to Nancy in 1704 and was appointed as Engraver at the mint there in 1797. He created over 120 medals, most of which have a distinctive border, such as that on this medal. Saint-Urbain died in Nancy on January 10, 1738.

Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors. He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste ?mile Dropsy. He later studied at l??cole Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.
