He studied under Chaplain, Peter, Bott?e and Hector Lemarie. He won several distinctions as a medallist and was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d’Honneur. Blin died in Paris in 1946.

1929, France. GEORGES CLEMENCEAU, 1841-1929, Statesman. By Henri Dropsy. Cast bronze 96mm. Obv: High relief head of Georges Clemenceau facing right. Rev: A female, brandishing a sword, grabbing a nude warrior by the hair and subduing him. Numbered 48 on its edge. Maier 305. Extremely fine. $575. ———- Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors. He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste ?mile Dropsy. He later studied at l??cole Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.

Undated (circa 1930), France. CHAMBRE DE METIERS INTERDEPARTMENTALE DE PARIS. By Georges Contaux. Bronze-gilt 55mm. OBV: A seated female weaving. REV: Arms of Paris. Extremely fine. $75. ———— Georges Contaux was born in Paris. He entered the ?cole Boulle, where he studied sculpture and engraving. He joined the 26?me R?giment d?artillerie de campagne at Chartres in 1911. Contaux was wounded during World War I and had two fingers amputated. In 1921 he received an honorable mention at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais. From 1922 to 1923 he worked for the engraver Pierre Lasserre (1870-1943). He then established himself at Vigneux-sur-Seine, where he remained, for the rest of his life, working as a sculptor and medallist. We was a prolific medallist producing about twenty-five hundred medals over the span of fifty years from 1930 to 1980. About fifteen hundred of his medals were religious and another eight hundred related to sports.

In 1911 he won the Prix de Rome and. in 1922, a silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais, followed by a gold medal two years later. He was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. Benard died in 1961.

Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis, French painter, sculptor and medallist, was born in 1849. At the age of seventeen he entered l??cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts. In 1868 he won second Prix de Rome for medal engraving and the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1872. He exhibited regularly at the Salon. He was made an officer of the L?gion d?Honneur in 1898. Daniel-Dupuis died tragically in 1899. He was shot in his sleep by his wife, who had a history of mental illness. His wife then turned the gun on herself and committed suicide.? Daniel-Dupuis created an extensive body of medallic works.

François Maurice Thénot was born in 1893. He studied under Patey. He exhibited in the Salon des Artistes and won a bronze medal in 1927 and a silver medal in 1936. His medallic works include a fine series of plaquettes and medals depicting African animals. Thénot died in 1963.

He was a student at the ?cole des Beaux-Arts, where he studied under Jules Cavelier, Hubert Ponscarme and Oscar Roty. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais, where he received an honorable mention in 1888 and a second-class medal in 1908. He died at Gentilly (Seine) on November 8 1925
