Rev: A youth exercising. Cased. $125. ———– Albert Herbemont was born in 1874 and was a pupil of Ponscarme. He won a gold medal at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1923. He was a founding member of the Soci?t? Fran?ais des Amis de la M?daille. Herbemont died in 1953.

Raymond Tschudin (1916-?) was the son of a medalist and came early to his profession. He studied under Henry Dropsy at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He won the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1945.

1918, France. ANATOLE FRANCE (1844-1924), Writer. By Henri Nocq. Bronze 51mm. OBV: Bust of Anatole France facing right. REV: A chicken on a spit, a dress form and a fleur-de-lis. Extremely fine. $90 ———- Henry (Henri-Eug?ne) Nocq was born in Saint-Mand? (Val-de-Marne) in 1869. He studied under the sculptor, Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu. Starting in 1887 he exhibited at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Artistes Fran?ais. He won a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1900. In 1907 he was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. He was interested in and wrote about art theory. Nocq created medals, plaquettes, sculpture and many artistically designed everyday objects. He died in 1944.

Henry Dropsy was born into a family of sculptors in 1885. He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste ?mile Dropsy. He later studied at l??cole Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. He became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. Dropsy died in 1969.

1937, France. EXPOSITION INTERNATIONALE DES ARTS ET TECHNIQUES. By Pierre Turin. Bronze 69mm. OBVERSE: A workman, and a female holding a palette and brushes, before the head of Marianne. REVERSE: A hammer and olive branch before a caduceus and two lighted torches. Catalogue G?n?rale Illustr? volume 3 382/B. $195. —————– Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a Duexi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a Premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the completion in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died in 1968.

Paul-Marcel Dammann, sculptor and medallist was born on June 13, 1885, at Montgerm. He studied under Chaplain. In 1908 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. In 1928 he won a medal of honor at the Salon and was made a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in the following year. He designed a number of coins for foreign governments. Dammann died in 1939.
