Great Britain. THE QUEEN, PRINCE ALBERT, AND BRITAIN?S HOPE. Brass box medal 28mm containing four white metal medals 27mm. BHM 2382 lists five medals as comprising the set, but four medals seem to fit snuggly. BHM lists two medal portraying Victoria, it seems curious that the set would contain a second portrait of Victoria. Also, the lid would not fit, so this may be complete. $125. 1933, France. PAUL METADIER. By Paul Marcel Dammann. Bronze 65mm. $75. ———— Paul-Marcel Dammann, sculptor and medallist, was born on June 13, 1885, at Montgerm. He studied under Chaplain. In 1908 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. In 1928 he won a medal of honor at the Salon and was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur in the following year. He designed a number of coins for foreign governments. Dammann died in 1939.

1914, World War I. France BOMBARDMENT AND FIRE AT REIMS CATHEDRAL. By Ovide Yencesse. Bronze 50mm. $85. ——- Ovide Yencesse (1860-1947) was born at Dijon. He studied under Ponscarme, Thomas and Levillain at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was director of the ?cole des Beaux-Arts at Dijon. He won gold medals at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1900 and in 1920. Yencesse was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur in 1900. Many of his medallic works have a distinctive, subtle effect using a soft, shallow relief.

1907, France. CENTENARY OF THE COURS DES COMPTES. By Frederic de Vernon. Bronze 55mm x 71mm. $90. Sorry, SOLD (July, 2023)————– Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon was born in Paris on 17 November, 1858. He studied under Cavelier, Chaplain and Tasset and, on the urging of Chaplain, took part in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving. He placed twice before eventually winning in 1887. His works exhibit a strong influence by Roty. Vernon won many accolades and in 1900 was made a chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. He died in 1912.
