1982, France. EVE. By Henry Dropsy. Bronze 50mm. OBVERSE: Eve and the serpent in front of the Tree of Knowledge. REVERSE: A wreath enclosing a butterfly and inscription: 5 Mai 1926 / 31 Decembre 1982. $60 Sorry, SOLD (January, 2022) ——— Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors. He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste ?mile Dropsy. He later studied at l??cole Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.

Cased. $295. Sorry, SOLD ———- Marie-Alexandre Lucien Coudray was born in Paris on February 21 1864. He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts and was a student of Dumont, Thomas, Allouard and Ponscarme. In 1893 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving for Orph?e endort Cerb?re aux sons de sa lyre (Orpheus putting Cerebus to sleep by the sound of his lyre), In 1898 he won a first prize at the Salon and a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. Coudray?s best known work is his portrait of Orpheus, which was offered for sale by the Monnaie de Paris, at the Universal Exposition in 1900. 4,500 examples which struck to meet the demand. Coudray died in 1932.

The Monnaie exhibited his work in 1976.

He studied sculpture under Paul Dubois (1829-1905) at l’?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1909 he won the Belgian Prix de Rome for sculpture. Rau died in Brussels on June 29 1966.

He studied under the sculptors Landowski and Bouchard. He first exhibited at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Beaux Arts in 1921 and won a bronze medal in 1924. In the following year he won a Grand Prix at the Exposition des Arts D?oratifs et Industriels Moderns. Unlike his contemporaries, he eschewed the reducing machine and cut his models directly into the plaster in the actual size of his intended medals. His medals typically reflect a strong Art Deco style.

He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died in 1968.

Sorry, SOLD (February, 2022) ———– Maurice Delannoy was born on March 11, 1885 in Paris. He studied at the ?cole Germain Pilon under Charles Valton and Jules ?douard Roin?. He became a professor of drawing and worked as a medallisst and sculptor. He designed coins for Morocco, Monaco and Lebanon, and a considerable number of medals. Delannoy was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d’Honneur in 1947. He died in Paris on April 26, 1972.

He attended l??cole de Dessin de Roulers, l?Academie des Beaux-Arts at Antwerp and l?Institut National Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts. In 1891 he won a second prize in the Belgian Prix de Rome competition. Dupon exhibited extensively and won several prizes. He worked in various media, including medals. He established a reputation in particular as sculptor of animals. Dupon died at Berchem on October 13 1935

He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1923. Bazor succeeded Patey in the post of Engraver General at the Paris Mint, a post he held until 1958. He died in 1974.
