He then studied at l??cole Nationale des Arts D?coratifs at Paris. In 1901 he entered l??cole des beaux-arts. He became a member of la Soci?t? Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Bourgouin died in Paris on October 30 1924.

France. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE METROPOLITAN RAILROAD IN PARIS. By Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon (1858-1912, Grand Prix de Rome). Bronze plaquette 90mm x 70mm. Maier 172. $500. ———- Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon was born in Paris on 17 November, 1858. He studied under Cavelier, Chaplain and Tasset and, on the urging of Chaplain, took part in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving. He placed twice before eventually winning in 1887. His works exhibit a strong influence by Roty. Vernon won many accolades and in 1900 was made a chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. He died in 1912.

1930, Belgium. CENTENARY OF BELGIAN INDEPENDENCE. By Marcel Rau (1886-1966). Bronze 50mm. $40. ————– Marcel Rau, sculptor and medallist, was born in Brussels on March 20 1886. He studied sculpture under Paul Dubois (1829-1905) at l’?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1909 he won the Belgian Prix de Rome for sculpture. Rau died in Brussels on June 29 1966.

He studied under Ponscarme, Thomas and Levillain at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was director of the ?cole des Beaux-Arts at Dijon. He won gold medals at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1900 and in 1920. Yncesse was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur in 1900. His medallic works often achieve a subtle effect using a soft, shallow relief.

He first exhibited at the Salon in 1880 and in 1883 became a member of the Artistes Fran?ais. He won many awards and was made a chevalier of la L?gion d?Honneur in 1908. Peyrol died at Neuilly on December 24 1929.

François Maurice Thénot was born in 1893. He studied under Patey. He exhibited in the Salon des Artistes and won a bronze medal in 1927 and a silver medal in 1936. His medallic works include a fine series of plaquettes and medals depicting African animals. Thénot died in 1963.

He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died on July 25 1968 in Sucy-en-Brie, where he had been born.
