François Maurice Thénot was born in 1893. He studied under Patey. He exhibited in the Salon des Artistes and won a bronze medal in 1927 and a silver medal in 1936. His medallic works include a fine series of plaquettes and medals depicting African animals. Thénot died in 1963.

He studied under Auguste Patey at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1923. Bazor succeeded Patey in the post of Engraver General at the Paris Mint, a post he held until 1958. He died in 1974.

France. LE CHARMEUR. By Marie-Alexandre Coudray (1864-1932. Grand Prix de Rome, 1893). Bronze plaquette 47mm x 70mm. OBVERSE: A couple peering our of threes ata fairy playing a pipe. REVERSE: Two putti. Catalogue G?n?rale Illustr? 164/A. $275 ———- Marie-Alexandre Lucien Coudray was born in Paris on February 21. He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts and was a student of Dumont, Thomas, Allouard and Ponscarme. In 1893 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving for Orph?e endort Cerb?re aux sons de sa lyre (Orpheus putting Cerebus to sleep by the sound of his lyre). Another portrait of Orpheus is Coudray?s most celebrated medallic work, 4,500 examples of which were struck by the Monnaie de Paris and sold at the Universal Exhibiion of 1900. In 1898 he won a first prize at the Salon and a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. Coudray died in 1932.

George Dupr?, French sculptor and medalist was born at Saint-?tienne in 1869. He was descended from Augustin Dupr?, a medallist at the time of the French Revolution. He studied under Thomas and Roty. He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1896. Dupr? suffered from a lifetime of poor health and died in 1909.
