He studied under his father Valentin- Maurice Borrel and under Jouffroy and Merley. As a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts. He won the second grand prix de Rome for medal engraving. We was a soci?taire des Artistes Fran?ais. He won a second class medal at the salon in 1880, a second class medal in 1890, and a first class medal in 1893. He was made a chevalier de la L?gion d’Honneur in 1906. Borrel died in 1927.

François Maurice Thénot was born in 1893. He studied under Patey. He exhibited in the Salon des Artistes and won a bronze medal in 1927 and a silver medal in 1936. His medallic works include a fine series of plaquettes and medals depicting African animals. Thénot died in 1963.
