Sorry, SOLD (October, 2020) ————Hippolyte Lef?bvre, sculptor and medallist was born in Lille. He studied at the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts in Lille, where he won first prizes in drawing and sculpture. He later entered the ?cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he won numerous prizes. He exhibited at the Salon and won the Grand Prix de Rome in sculpture in 1892. Lef?bvre won gold medals for medals that he exhibited at the 1900 Universal Exposition.

Raymond Pelletier was born in 1908.  He studied at l’École Boulle. As a medallist, he worked primarily for a private company. In 1951 he was appointed as engraver at the mint in Lima, Peru. Pelletier died in 1958.

He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where specialized in designing medals coins and small bronzes under Auguste Carli and Lucien Bazor and. He began exhibiting at the Salon des artistes Fran?ais in 1929 and was made a member. In 1954 he won a diploma and medal at the international exposition in Madrid. Cochet died at Moulins on July 26 1988.

He studied under Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu and Jules-Cl?ment Chaplain. He won the premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1890. He became a soci?taire des Artistes Fran?ais in 1898. In 1900 he won a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. Pillet was made a chevalier of the L?gion d’Honneur in 1911. He won the Salon?s medal of honor in 1923. Pillet died in 1960.

He entered the Budapest School of Decorative Arts, and later studied under Prof. Eberle at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. He moved to Italy, where he studied under Prof. Kopf for two years at the Palazzo Venezia in Rome. In 1892 he- went to Paris and entered the studio of the Master Ernest Barrias. Szirma? died in 1938.

Ernesta Robert-M?rignac, sculptor and medallist was born at Saint-Omer on August 25 1849. She studied under Mlle Genevi?ve Granger, Mlle Darbefeille and Georges R?cipon. She exhibited four plaquettes in 1905 at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais and several medals in 1906 and at the 1924 Olympics. She was the daughter of fencing master Charles Gustave Robert and wife of another, ?mile M?rignac. Her nephew Lucien M?rignac won the gold medal in the 1900 Olympic Foil Masters event. Robert-M?rignac, died at Paris on February 28 1933.

France. CHRISTOPHLE, PARIS. ORFEVRERIE (Silversmith). By Oscar Roty. Bronze-gilt plaquette 28mm x 58mm. $200. Sorry, SOLD (April, 2022) ———– Louis Oscar Roty was born at Paris on June 11, 1846. He initially studied painting at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts under Lecoq and Boisbaudran. It is reported that he lost the money for a paint box and subsequently enrolled in a life-drawing class and thence into sculpting. This trajectory would eventually lead to his career as the most celebrated medallist of his time. Along the way, he studied in the atelier of the statuary Augustin Dumont and under Ponscarme, Chapu and Chaplain. He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1875. Roty spent three years in Rome, where he modeled a number of waxes. In 1888 he was elected to the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts. He took the grand prize at the International Exposition in 1889. Roty was a commander of the L?gion d?Honneur. He was responsible for reintroducing the plaquette, an art form that had been neglected since the Renaissance. His ?Semeuse? (sower) was widely used on French coins and stamps. He died in Paris on March 23, 1911.
