Fran?ois-Paul (Paul) Niclausse was born on May 26, 1879, at Metz (then annexed to the German Empire following the Franco-Prussian Wat). He studied at the ?cole des Beaux-Arts de Paris under Ponscarme and Gabriele-Jules Thomas and later joined the faculty as a professor. He was elected as a member of the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts and became a Soci?taire of the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais, where he received an honorable mention in 1898 and a bronze medal in 1900. Niclausse was eventually made a chevalier de la L?gion d’honneur. hE DIED IN 1958.

Jane McAdam Freud was born in London on February 28, 1958. She was the daughter of artist Lucien Freud and great-granddaughter of Sigmund Freud. She is noted for her conceptual sculpture. She held her first solo show, aged 18, under the curatorship of her teachers at Putney Art School. She also studied at the Wimbledon College of Art, the Central School of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art. Additionally, she spent some time studying mosaics in Ravenna. In 1986 she won the British Art Medal Scholarship in Rome where she studied sculpture at the Academia de Belle Arti de Roma and at the Scuola d’Arte della Medaglia in Rome. McAdam Freud held several exhibitions of her medallic works, which are represented in museums in the United Kingdom, United States, Greece and Germany. She died on August 9, 2022.

Léon-Claude Mascaux was born in Saint-Germain-en-Lay (Yvelines) on June 13 1882, He studied under the sculptors Landowski and Bouchard. He first exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Beaux Arts in 1921. In 1924 he won a medal in the artistic comptetion of the Olympic Games. In the following year he won a Grand Prix at the Exposition des Arts Déoratifs et Industriels Moderns for a series seven sports-themed medals. Unlike his contemporaries, he eschewed the reducing machine and cut his models directly into the plaster in the actual size of his intended medals. His medals typically reflect a strong Art Deco style. Mascaux died at Fontainebleau on March 8 1965.

Jules-Cl?ment Chaplain (1839-1909) was born at Mortagne. He entered the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1857. He studied under the sculptor, Jouffroy, and Eugene-Andr? Oudin?, the medallist. He won the first prize at the Concours de Rome in 1862. He studied in Italy from 1864 to 1868. Cahplain was elected to the Acad?mie des Beaux-Arts in 1881 and became an officer of the L?gion d’Honneur in 1888.
