Stamped 151 on its edge. $475. ———- Henri-Louis Bouchard, sculptor and medallist, was born in Dijon on December 13 1875. He studied at the Acad?mie Julian and in the studio of Louis-Ernest Barrias before entering the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Bouchard became a professor at the Acad?mie Julian in 1910. He won the first Grand Prix de Rome for sculpture in 1901 and a medal of honor for sculpture at the Exposition des Art D?coratifs in 1925. He participated in the sculpture event (one of five categories in the Art Competition) at the Olympic Games held in Paris in 1924. In 1941 he was a member of a group of French artists who were invited by Joseph Goebbels to take a grand tour of Nazi Germany. Upon his return he spoke favorably of the status afforded artists in Germany. Following the Liberation of Paris in 1944, he was suspended from his professorship and branded as a collaborator and widely ostracized. He nevertheless achieved great acclaim. Bouchard died in Paris on November 1960. Two years later his studio was opened as museum containing over a thousand items. It was closed in 2007 and its contents transferred Mus?e de La Piscine in Roubaix.

David studied under Marchand and Jean-Jacques Delusse at l??cole centrale d?Angers between 1806 and 1807. In 1811 he won the Grand Prix de Rome for a bas relief of ?Mort d??paminondas.? After his stay in Rome, he traveled through France to London, where he met Flaxman and worked with him on a monument to the Duke of Wellington. He returned to France in 1818 He quickly established his reputation and was made a chevalier de la L?gion d’honneur in 1825 and was elected as a member of l?Institut de France in the following year. He served as a professor at l??cole des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He is celebrated for many sculptures, but especially for his extensive series of portrait medallions. David died in Paris on January 6 1856,
