1912, France. TRIBUTE TO AMEDEE GODARD. By Ovide Yencesse (1860-1947). Bronze 50mm. Cased. $135.
Ad?m?e Godard was an editor of medals in Paris. He served as the agent for Ovide Yencesse, Oscar Roty and others. He may also have engraved medals, but I have not encountered any of his work. He is not listed in Benezit?s or Eduoard-Joseph?s Dictionaries of artists. ——— Ovide Yencesse (1860-1947) was born at Dijon. He studied under Ponscarme, Thomas and Levillain at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was director of the ?cole des Beaux-Arts at Dijon. He won gold medals at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1900 and in 1920. Yencesse was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur in 1900. Many of his medallic works have a distinctive, subtle effect using a soft, shallow relief.
