Undated (early 20th century), France. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY OF L’ALLIER. By Frederic-Charles Victor de Vernon. Silver 51mm. OBV: A female seated in a garden. REV: A “B” within a wreath. The field within the wreath appears to have had an inscription erased and a “B” inscribed in its place, extremely fine. $120. Sorry, SOLD (February, 2020). ———- Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon was born in Paris on 17 November, 1858. He studied under Cavelier, Chaplain and Tasset and, on the urging of Chaplain, took part in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving. He placed twice before eventually winning in 1887. His works exhibit a strong influence by Roty. Vernon won many accolades and in 1900 was made a chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur. He died in 1912.
