Theodore Spicer-Simpson was of born into an English family at Le Havre in 1871. He studied in England, Germany and at l’École Nationale Supèrieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He worked as a sculptor, painter and medallist. Spicer-Simpson travelled extensively and lived for a time in America. He is noted in particular for his cast portrait medallions, taken from life. He died in 1960
