France. ACADEMIE DE MEDICINE. By Henri Auguste Jules Patey (1855-1930, Grand Prix de Rome in 1881). Bronze 59mm. $100. ————— Henri Auguste Jules Patey was born in Paris on September 1855. He entered the ?cole des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1873, where he studied sculpture under Henri Chapu and Fran?ois Jouffroy, followed by medal engraving under Jules-Cl?ment Chaplain. He first exhibited at the Salon in 1877. In 1881 he won the premier grand prix de Rome in medal engraving. He became a soci?taire of the Soci?t? des Artistes Fran?ais in 1885. He won various medals, including a bronze medal that Universal Exposition of 1889 and a gold medal at the Universal Exposition of 1900. In 1896 he succeeded Jean Lagrange as the Graveur g?n?ral des monnaies at the Paris Mint, a post he held until 1930. In 1898 he was made a chevalier de la L?gion d’honneur and became a member of the Acad?mie des beaux-arts in 1913. Patey died in Paris on May 17 1930.
