Catalogue G?n?rale Illustr? vol. 3 269/H. $135. Sorry, SOLD (June, 2023) ————– Pierre-Alexandre Morlon (1878-1951) was born at M?con. He initially worked under his father, a marble worker, but later moved to Paris, where he studied under the sculptors Alexandre Falgui?re and Merci?. He became a regular exhibitor at the Salon of the Soci?t? des Artistes Fran?ais. He produced several war memorials following World War I and is noted, among medal collectors, for his medals related to World War I. Morlon designed an effigy of Marianne in a Phrygian cap, which was used on the fifty centime, one franc and two-franc coins from 1931 until 1959. He also designed coins for Uruguay. He was made a Chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur in 1927. He died at Houdan on February 24, 1951.
