Franz Huygelen was born on19 August 1878, in Antwerp. He studied at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp and, under Thomas Vin?otte, at the Hoger Instituut. He won the Belgian Prix de Rome. Huygelen died at Ukkel in 1940. He created a number of medals, which were struck in a large format without a border. They have a distinctive, free-flowing style.
