Georges Guiraud was born at Toulouse on August 5 1901. He was the son of Albert Guiraud, who was a painter and illuminator of documents. Guiraud studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Toulouse and later at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He worked in the workshop of Jean Boucher. Guiraud won the First Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1926. He died at Saint-Hilaire-au-Temple (Marne) on May 12 1989.
