Vatican. POPE JOHN PAUL II. By Philip Nathan. Bronze 55mm. Numbered 0151 on its edge. $100 Philip Nathan (1941) is a sculptor, medallist, and coin designer. He trained at Guildford School of Art, 1957-62, where he specialized in carving and terracotta modelling, then at the Royal Academy Schools, where he won the silver medal for sculpture. He joined the Royal Society of Sculptors in 1966. Between 1965 and 1968 he worked as an engraver at the Royal Mint.  as engraver and designer, then for the Franklin Mint until 1973. He currently lives in Dorset, England.

France. CHRIST ON THE CROSS. By Albert de Jaeger. Cruciform bronze 52mm x 62mm. $80 Albert De Jaeger was born on October 28, 1908 in Roubaix. He won a first prize at l’École des Beaux-Arts de Roubaix et de Tourcoing. He later studies at l’École National des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. He was a student of Bouchard, Dropsy and Despiau. In 1935 he won the Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving. He won accolades during his distinguished career. De Jaeger died on May 19, 1992.

France. JOSEPH PERES, Mathematician. By Henry Dropsy. Bronze 68mm. $75 Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors.  He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste Émile Dropsy. He later studied at l’École Supérieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.

Sorry, SOLD (February, 2023) ———- Ovide Yencesse (1860-1947) was born at Dijon. He studied under Ponscarme, Thomas and Levillain at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was director of the ?cole des Beaux-Arts at Dijon. He won gold medals at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1900 and in 1920. Yencesse was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur in 1900. Many of his medallic works have a distinctive, subtle effect using a soft, shallow relief.
