Pierre-Marie Poisson was born on 19 November 1876 in Niort (Deux-Sèvres). He studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Toulouse and later moved to Paris to study sculpture. He received a scholarship for the Villa Abd-el-Tif in Algeria in 1908. He worked primarily as a sculptor and only turned to creating medals later in his career.

Raoul Eugène Lamourdedieu (1877-1953) was born at Faugerolles (Lot-et-Garonne). He studied at the École des Beaux Arts at Bordeaux. He won the Prix de la Ville de Bordeaux at the age of twenty. He moved to Paris and studied at the École des Beaux Arts. Be became a professor at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, a member of La Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and of the Salon d’Automne. He created numerous medals and sculpture in carved wood and other materials.
