OBV: A semi-nude female seated with various symbols of technology; an airship, viaduct and lighthouse in the background. $150. Louis Maximilien Bourgeois (1839-1901) studied at l??cole des Arts D?coratifs and later, under Jouffroy and Thomas at l? ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts. He first exhibited at the Salon in 1863 and continued to do so every year until his death.

1931, U.S.A., France. THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CAPITULATION OF YORKTOWN. By Pierre Turin. Bronze 68mm. Obv: Conjoined busts of Washington, De Grasse-Tilly and Rochambeau facing right. Rev: A map of Yorktown. Cased. $125. Sorry, SOLD (May, 2023). —————– Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a deuxi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the competition in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died on July 25 1968 in Sucy-en-Brie, where he had been born.

?mile Monier, a sculptor and medallist was born in 1883. He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, and in the studios of Ponscarme and Peter. In the course of his career he received numerous honors and became a Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur. Monier died in 1970.
