1973, Israel. ISRAEL?S 25TH ANNIVERSARY. Uniface studio model. By Paul Vincze. Artist?s signature and two mounting screws on the reverse. $350. Sorry, SOLD (February, 2021) ———- Paul Vincze (1907-1994), the son of a Jewish father and Roman Catholic mother was born in Hungary. He studied at the High School of Arts and Crafts in Budapest and later in the studio of E. Telcs. In 1935 he won a scholarship to study in Rome. In 1937 he moved to England and eventually became a British citizen. He worked out of a studio in Chelsea, but later moved to the south of France, where he died. He is noted for an extensive body of medals.

LA CIGALE ET LA FOURMI (The Grasshopper and the Ant). By Jean Vernon. Uniface bronze 59mm. Obv: The hard working ant and the singing grasshopper. Cat. Gen. vol. 3 391/D. $90. Sorry, SOLD (August, 2020). ———- Jean ?mile Louis de Vernon (known as Jean Vernon) was the son of medallist and sculptor Fr?d?ric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He was born in Paris on April 1 1897. Vernon studied at the ?cole des Arts D?coratifs and at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, under Jules Coutan and Hippolyte Jules Lef?bvre. He first exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1922 and won a silver medal in 1924 and a gold medal in 1936. Vernon worked primarily as a sculptor, but created medals, including his famous series of medals depicting scenes from Jean de la Fontaine’s Fables. He died in Paris on September 9 1975.

Sorry, SOLD (October, 2020). ———– Ovide Yencesse (1860-1947) was born at Dijon. He studied under Ponscarme, Thomas and Levillain at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was director of the ?cole des Beaux-Arts at Dijon. He won gold medals at the Salon des Artistes Fran?ais in 1900 and in 1920. Yencesse was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur in 1900. Many of his medallic works have a distinctive, subtle effect using a soft, shallow relief.
