Uniface bronze plaquette 72mm x 135mm. Obv: A nude female looking at two fledglings in a nest. Cf. Cat. Gen. vol 3 175/D. $325. Sorry, SOLD (September, 2024). —————- Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis (1848-1899), French painter, sculptor and medallist entered l??cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts at the age of seventeen. In 1868 he won the second Prix de Rome for medal engraving and the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1872. He exhibited regularly at the Salon. In 1898 he was made an officer of the L?gion d?Honneur. Daniel-Dupuis died tragically in 1899, when he was shot in his sleep by his wife, who had a history of mental illness. His wife then turned the gun on herself and committed suicide. Daniel-Dupuis created an extensive oeuvre of medallic works.

1930, France. ARM?E DE L?AIR ? CONCOURS DES OFFICIERS. By Raymond Delamarre (1890-1986). Bronze plaquette 71mm x 51mm. Very slight knocks to each of its corners on the obverse. $275. Sorry, SOLD (September, 2024) ——— Raymond Delamarre was born in Paris on June 8 1890. He studied under his father, an engraver, and under Jules Coutan at l’?cole des beaux-arts de Paris. He was also a student of Rodin. He was mobilized in World War I and was wounded and captured in 1914. He returned to Paris following the war and won the first Grand Prize de Rome for Sculpture in 1919. He exhibited at the international expositions of 1925, 1931 and 1937. Delamarre is noted for large scale sculptures, and a bas-relief, Les Arts et Monuments R?gionau on the liner ?Normandie.? He created a large body of medals and plaquettes. Delamarre died on February 28 1986. ——- A biography and discussion of his work are included in RAYMOND DELAMARRE 1890-1896, published in 2007 to coincide with an exhibition of his work.
