Marcel Renard, sculptor and medallist was born at Lyon in 1892. He studied at the ?cole des Beaux-Art de Lyon and then at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He spent time in the ateliers of Boucher and Patey. In 1923 he won the Premier Second Prix de Rome and a gold medal at the Salon des Artistes D?corateurs. He died in 1974.

Alexandre-Louis-Marie Charpentier, medalist, sculptor and craftsman was born in 1856. He with Ponscarme, Louis-Oscar Roty and others was responsible for the resurgence of medallic art in France in the late 19th century. Charpentier died in 1909.

? ? Godefroid Devreese was one of Belgium’s most prolific medallists. He was born at Courtrai in 1861. He studied sculpture under his father and later at the Academy of Brussels. In 1885 he won the second Grand Prix de Rome. In 1889 he won the first Grand Prix for sculpture at the Academy of Brussels and a gold medal at the International Exposition in Cologne. ?
