Rev: a small child seated under a tree. Cat. Gen vol. 3 175/F, Maier 122. Extremely fine. $180. Sorry, SOLD ? Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis, French painter, sculptor and medallist, was born in 1849. At the age of seventeen he entered l??cole Nationale Sup?rieur des Beaux-Arts. In 1868 he won second prix de Rome for medal engraving and the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1872. He exhibited regularly at the Salon. He was made an officer of the L?gion d?honneur in 1898. Daniel-Dupuis died in 1899, when he was killed by his wife.

REV: A kneeling male holding a lighted torch and an open book and a seated female holding the masks of comedy and tragedy. Eimer 2103. Cased. $135. Sorry, SOLD (March, 2024) ——— Paul Vincze (1907-1994), the son of a Jewish father and Roman Catholic mother was born in Hungary. He studied at the High School of Arts and Crafts in Budapest and later in the studio of E. Telcs. In 1935 he won a scholarship to study in Rome. In 1937 he moved to England and eventually became a British citizen. He worked out of a studio in Chelsea, but later moved to the south of France, where he died. He is noted for an extensive body of medals.

His father was a sculptor. David studied under Marchand and Jean-Jacques Delusse at l??cole centrale d?Angers between 1806 and 1807. In 1811 he won the Grand Prix de Rome for a bas relief of ?Mort d??paminondas.? After his stay in Rome, he traveled through France to London, where he met Flaxman and worked with him on a monument to the Duke of Wellington. He returned to France in 1818 He quickly established his reputation and was made a chevalier de la L?gion d’honneur in 1825 and was elected as a member of l?Institut de France in the following year. He served as a professor at l??cole des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He is celebrated for many sculptures, but especially for his extensive series of portrait medallions. David died in Paris on January 6 1856,
