1974, France. 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CHAMBRES D’AGRICULTURE. By Raymond Delamarre. Bronze 58mm. In a circular cardboard case. $50.

Raymond Delamarre was born in Paris on June 8, 1890. He studied under his father, an engraver, and under Jules Coutan at l’École des beaux-arts de Paris. He was also a student of Rodin. He was mobilized in World War I and was wounded and captured in 1914. He returned to Paris following the war and won the first Grand Prize de Rome for Sculpture in 1919. He exhibited at the international expositions of 1925, 1931 and 1937. Delamarre is noted for large scale sculptures, and a bas-relief, Les Arts et Monuments Régionau on the liner ‘Normandie.”   He created a large body of medals and plaquettes. Delamarre died on February 28, 1986. Delamarre’s works, including his medals are discussed and illustrated in RAYMOND DELAMARRE, Sculpteur et Médailleur By Claire Maingon. Rennes, 1924

Maurice Delannoy was born on March 11, 1885, in Paris.  He studied at the École Germain Pilon under Charles Valton and Jules Édouard Roiné. He became a professor of drawing and worked as a medallisst and sculptor. He designed coins for Morocco, Monaco and Lebanon, and a considerable number of medals. Delannoy was made a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 1947. He died in Paris on April 26, 1972.

Sorry, SOLD (July, 2023) ————- Alph?e Dubois (1831-1905), French sculptor and medallist was a student at the ?cole Sup?rieure des Beaux Arts. He studied under Barre and Duret as well as his father Eug?ne Dubois. In 1855 he won the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving. He exhibited at the salon in 1868 and 1869. He was a jury member at the Universal Exposition of 1900. Dubois was made a chevalier de la L?gion d?Honneur.

France, Great Britain. PARIS-LONDON FOREIGN EXCHANGE MARKET. By Henry Dropsy (1885-1969) (Obverse after Marinus van Romerswael). Bronze 72mm. Cased. $125.

Henry Dropsy was born in Paris on January 21, 1885, into a family of sculptors.  He learned his craft under his father Jean-Baptiste Émile Dropsy. He later studied at l’École Supérieure des Beaux Arts. He was a professor of medal engraving at the school for many years. Dropsy became a member of the Institut in 1942 and a member of the Commission Administrative and of the Commission du Dictionaire. He created many medals. A large collection of his work is held at the Monnaie de Paris, which put on a special exhibition of his medals in 1964, the catalogue for which remains a standard reference. His earliest works are in the art nouveau style. His style evolved considerably over his long career. Dropsy died at Veneux-Les-Sablon on November 2, 1969.

Tony Antoine Szirma? medallist and sculptor was born in Hungary in 1871. He entered the Budapest School of Decorative Arts, and later studied under Prof. Eberle at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. He moved to Italy, where he studied under Prof. Kopf for two years at the Palazzo Venezia in Rome. In 1892 he- went to Paris and entered the studio of the Master Ernest Barrias. Szirma? died in 1938.

Robert Eug?ne Joseph Cochet was born in Paris on May 6 1903. He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where specialized in designing medals coins and small bronzes under Auguste Carli and Lucien Bazor and. He began exhibiting at the Salon des artistes Fran?ais in 1929 and was made a member. In 1954 he won a diploma and medal at the international exposition in Madrid. Cochet died at Moulins on July 26 1988.

Aleth Guzman-Nagotte, sculptor and medallist was born in 1904. She studied at the conservatory in Dijon, then moved to the town’s École des Beaux Arts, where she studied under Ovide Yencesse. She was accepted into the l’École Nationale Supérieur des Beaux-Arts at Paris, where she studied engraving under Patey and Dammann and sculpture under Sicard and Bouchard. She won the first Grand Prix de Rome in 1929. Guzman-Nagotte died in 1978.
