1925, France. EXPOSITION INTERNATIONALE DES ARTS DECORATIFS ET INDUSTRIELS MODERNS, PARIS. By Pierre Turin. Octagonal bronze 58mm (The smaller version of this medal). Obv: A semi-nude female, seated on a cloud, supporting a basket of flowers on her shoulder and dropping flowers with her other hand. Rev: A tablet set against flowers. Maier 322. $325. ——– Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a Duexi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a Premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the completion in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died in 1968.

12925 By Raymond Delamarre (1890-1986). Bronze 69mm. In its original, circular cardboard box. $150. Sorry, SOLD (July, 2019). ———– Raymond Delamarre was born in Paris on June 8 1890. He studied under his father, an engraver, and under Jules Coutan at l’?cole des beaux-arts de Paris. He was also a student of Rodin. He was mobilized in World War I and was wounded and captured in 1914. He returned to Paris following the war and won the first Grand Prize de Rome for Sculpture in 1919. He exhibited at the international expositions of 1925, 1931 and 1937. Delamarre is noted for large scale sculptures, and a bas-relief, Les Arts et Monuments R?gionau on the liner ?Normandie.? He created a large body of medals and plaquettes. Delamarre died on February 28 1986. ——- A biography and discussion of his work are included in RAYMOND DELAMARRE 1890-1896, published in 2007 to coincide with an exhibition of his work.

Marie-Alexandre Lucien Coudray was born in Paris on February 21 1864. He studied at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts and was a student of Dumont, Thomas, Allouard and Ponscarme. In 1893 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving for Orph?e endort Cerb?re aux sons de sa lyre (Orpheus putting Cerebus to sleep by the sound of his lyre), In 1898 he won a first prize at the Salon and a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. Coudray?s best known work is his portrait of Orpheus, which was offered for sale by the Monnaie de Paris, at the Universal Exposition in 1900. 4,500 examples which struck to meet the demand. Coudray died in 1932.

In 1900 he won a silver medal at the Universal Exposition. Pillet was made a chevalier of the L?gion d’Honneur in 1911. He won the Salon?s medal of honor in 1923. Pillet died in 1960.
