Pierre-Victor Dautel (1873-1954), French sculptor and medallist was born at Valenciennes. He studied sculpture and architecture at the ?cole Acad?miques at Valenciennes and later studied sculpture at the ?cole Nationale et Sp?ciale des Beaux Arts at Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Dubois. He won various awards during his distinguished career and was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur in 1929. Dautel died in 1954.

1935, Belgium.LEOPOLD III AND ASTRID. By Pierre Turin. Bronze 68mm. Obv: Uniformed bust, right. Rev: Bust, left. Extremely fine. $100. ———– Pierre Turin was born in Sucy-en-Brie (Val-de-Marne) on 3 August 1891. He trained as a steel engraver and became a student at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He studied medal engraving under Henri Auguste Jules Patey and Fr?deric-Charles Victor de Vernon. He participated several times in the competition for the Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving, receiving a Duexi?me second Grand Prix in 1914, a Premier second Grand Prix in 1919 and finally winning the completion in 1920. He had a distinguished career as a medalist and designer of coins. He is noted for his many works with a bold, Art Deco style, in particular the prize medal from the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs Et Industriels Moderns in Paris. In 1938 he was made a Chevalier of the L?gion d?Honneur. Turin died in 1968.

In a circular case. $150. ———– Louis-Alexandre Bott?e (1852-1941) was born in Paris. At the age of 13 he was apprenticed to a button-making manufactory, where he was responsible for engraving dies. He later studied at the ?cole des Art D?coratifs. In 1869 he joined the atelier of Paulin Tasset and in 1871 he joined the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts. He won the Premiere Grand Prix de Rome for medal engraving in 1878 and a gold medal at the Salon of 1900. In 1903 he was made an Officier de la L?gion d?Honneur.
